I am interested, and will be there any night but saturday. Sounds like a great opportunity. The Solomon set up looks great. I have seen some small home builds with a similar setup using B/S Etek motors. Very efficient set up with 2 batts and a solar panel

I am old-fashioned. I prefer a sail-boat to a motor-boat, and it is my belief that boat-sailing is a finer, more difficult, and sturdier art than running a motor.  Jack London

Count me in too! Except for this Saturday. We're going to the Awards Dinner for Singles on Sailboats.

Hi all -

Well, we have a newer, MUCH better way to chat now. My friend and fellow sailor Wolf has set us up on a server he runs (Free Grog for Wolf!). The link above at the top of the page (in the Forum page News) will take you to the new chat. There are 3 ways to connect -

The first 2 use Java, and as long as you have Java on your computer (most people should have it already) you just click in and join.

If you use the 2nd of the two Java methods, on joining your name will be something like "User4782". To change your name, type in and Enter the following:

/nick Your_Name

Your name will change to whatever you chose to put in the "Your_Name" area. There is a space inbetween the "/nick" and "Your_Name".

To join using the 3rd method, you will need a standalone IRC client program (like mIRC for windows) - or, if you are using the Mozilla Firefox web browser, you can install the Chatzilla extension and join using it.

Try it out! I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have. I'll also be on there for a while, looking in to see if anyone is chatting. Have fun!

I received an email from Neal today, it looks like we will set this up for the middle of next week - Tuesday evening sometime will probably be best, if that'll work with Neals schedule.

I've messaged him about the new chat; I do want to make sure that it works OK from his end, and run Tuesday by him to see what he says, but there's a tentative date/time. More specifics coming when I have them. Smiley

For those using Mirc the room channel is "#sail_far" . Just add that to your list.

It's a Java application, so you may need to wait for a bit (longer on dialup of course) for the Java to get fired up and running. I'd go in there and wait around for you for a bit, but I'm under the weather this evening - blah. Time for some grub and some ZZZ's... Smiley

Maybe tomorrow, or perhaps someone else will meet you in there tonight?

Also, try both of the first 2 methods to see if one works and the other doesn't maybe?

Quote
Slower connections and/or older computers

Launch Chat Applet

Connected to the server, accepted user name.... would not allow me to enter typed text.

tried a couple of commands.... no luck..... Undecided

Of course I was in the room by myself..... so I would have just been talking to myself anyway....  Tongue

 Grin

Worked that time.  The first link opens two windows (on my computer anyway).  The one that displays full size is the control window (for typing commands).  The chat window was much smaller.

One thing, though.... when you click to go back to the board... it closes.

I was talking to Pete, and went to check back on the board and the chat window closed.... (sorry Pete....  Undecided )

I have three windows open and it stayed on when I clicked back to this board, and returned to it.
