One good thing about most of the boats used by Sailfar.net sailors is they're mostly shoal draft.

I'd estimate the container would have been 3-4 feet below the surface.

This illustrates how the containers are locked together - only 3 containers lost overboard in this incident.  I find that impressive.




On the other hand, this container ship accident didn't lose any containers, but it's definitely a bigger booboo...

I saw one of those a couple of years ago just outside of Tampa Bay. We were sailing in 12 feet of water and the Merchant ship was a half of mile into shore from us, grinding the sand like nobody's business. I was going to get on the horn and ask if I could help, but I think he would of just throw something big at us.
Some big sea tows were already on their way.
