It seems like only a little bit in the absolute sense to go from 1/4 to 3/8, but in relative terms it is a 50% increase in width and more than that in volume.
Yeah, I do need to think about slugs, especially since I often single hand with the kids. They are not much help yet. I have to drop the sail into the cockpit in a heap leaving a little bit of rope in the track and then fold/roll the mess onto the boom and bungie it. It looks pretty unsailor like. If the wind isn't blowing too hard, I will sometimes get some semblance of flaking on the boom as I lower it, but if there is some wind it's all I can do to keep the sail in the boat. I have thought about lazy jacks, but with such a small boat and the kids all over it, I really like having as few lines as I do.
