1). Get a lot done on the Ariel  working on the galley right now will be painting the interior as soon as the weather agrees.

2). Sail the Typhoon, just finished installing a new mainsheet and traveler setup.

3). I get to go to the BVI's also, in January, two weeks bareboat charter on a Lagoon 380 (one of them funny boats that hardly ever heel over  )

Winter 2011/2012 plans?

Continue working on the boat.  I have so much to do that it gets a little overwhelming.  A year haul-out sounds like a LOT of time, right?  It's already feeling like it's slipping away...

I've also got some wood-butchering projects planned (in my 'spare time').  I've learned a LOT in the past few months; I always thought my woodworking skills were amateurish at best, but the boat is teaching...patience, small bites and approach "from the outside" (if that makes sense).  I recently watched an online video of a home hobbyist making a guitar, and it was quite inspirational as well.  The collective "whole" of woodworking that he brought to the project was amazing.

No, I'm not planning to make a guitar...but the techniques and overall philosophy was...attitude changing.

The Opti needs a little work, too, though I'm planning to let the little ones do the lion's share of that.  It's their boat.  There are a couple of things I will have to do, though.

I have a friend who plans to build an Opti and I've offered to lend what meager skills I've accumulated to 'help out.'  I've built a Bolger boat from one of Dynamite Payson's books, so the 'small boat from plywood' construction style is at least of passing familiarity.

I also plan to move my trailer boat down here and get her back into sailing trim.  It's been over a year since she's been in the water, and I have some trips planned, perhaps for Spring, that 55 MPH 'delivery speed' will be worth the hassle.

We plan to do some camping, also.

So, after three years of living aboard and "fighting" the accumulation of cruft aboard a small boat, we are taking this hiatus as a 'refit' period.  I hope that when the boat splashes next year, she'll be better than when she came out in September.

We were asked a few months ago by a neighbor sailor to fill out a crew for this charter. They had done a trip to the Grenadines a previous year. As it is all self organized and because we managed first class tickets to fly there with accrued reward mileage we could hardly pass it up.   

We will be down there the last two weeks in January.

I was all set to charter the same cat... the Lagoon 38o in May.  I balked at the last minute and went for the Jenneau 43DS.... I admit to being a little concerned about the draw of the darkside.

I'm picking it up Dec. 8th. Hope to rig, provision, launch and cross the stream at some point shortly after that. It typically is a small world out there. You meet a lot of great people over the years and often run across them yearly. I've made many ongoing friendships within the winter cruising gang. It really is the best part of getting away.

My beloved and I have an invite to sail down in the Caribbean with a friend this February.  Hopefully, it'll come to pass.  Nice opportunity to take a break from winter boat work.  I hope it comes to pass...

I was planning on moving my boat to the coast but as of now I can't even get my boat out of the slip. The lake here has dropped to about 17 ft. The last time I went out I went aground twice in the harbor area. So until we get quite a bit of rain I get to do work on the boat in the slip.

 I had planned on going to the Bahamas, but that's not gonna happen this winter. I've spent many winters in the Keys, so that's always a possibility.
 I got a late start heading south after deciding to stay in N.Carolina through Thanksgiving, and now I am only as far south as Wrightsville Beach because my exhaust riser broke. It's not a major job, so I decided to fix what I think the cause of the breakage was and re-route a shorter, lighter, simpler system.
 Now I might as well go see the family for Christmas (in Raleigh) before heading south.
 After that, I want to spend at least a couple of weeks exploring Cape Romain. S.C., then maybe anchor close to Cape Canaveral and watch the new Atlas rockets being launched. I also would like to take another trip down the St. John's River in Florida. It's been more than a dozen years since I last took that trip.
 So, in other words....I don't really know. Just goin' with the flow.

This winter the boat will live in the water. I'll tarp her soon; but I'm still kinda hoping to get in another sail or two before winter sets in for real.  If the weather isn't too bad (so far this has been a good start to the cold season...will it last?) I hope to get some modifications done to the boat while I still have my home workshop (stupid economy...I may never get out of my house). At the very least I'm planning on "camping out" on the boat several times this winter to get a feel for what I need to do to make it cold weather habitable, while I still have a house I can bail out to if things don't work out.

Outside of that, I'm getting back into hiking and hope to do some winter backpacking/camping if I can get enough cold weather gear ($$$) together.

Next year should be interesting. I will likely move aboard (expected to this year...but I still have the house so I still live in it). I may upgrade to a slightly larger boat (I'm thinking around 28').  2013 will hopefully get real interesting if plans work out (they seldom do, of course) with, hopefully, voluntary unemployment followed by a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, followed by sailing over the horizon.  Fingers crossed.

I just got my plans for a B & B Two-Paw 9.  I'll be building that in my shop while searching for the right boat to buy this spring.

We,re iced in now until spring so my cold weather sails are over for the year. Might take a charter in the canaries for a week. or greece. We take about ten days off here for Easter holidays so it's perfect timing to find some sunshine.
