Tim - Your work on "Glissando", the website documenting her rebirth, and all of the other contributions you've made for us small boat sailors, all of that has been part of the fuel for my dream. (Like I needed *more*, right?, right? ). I've been wanting this since I was a kid and read "Dove". When I saw what folks like you and Jim Baldwin have done with these classic Alberg designs (my favorite NA of all time), it made me start looking for my own Alberg-drawn "Good Old Boat". In Ariel "Katie Marie", I've found her. Thanks for the inspiration.

     I'm just checking in for the first time.  I think I'm going to enjoy this site.  Thanks.

     Just a quick starter...I spent 7 1/2 months, 3 years ago cruising from Florida through Abacos and back, single handed.  I have also cruised the southern B.C. coast and Cheasapeak during the past 3 years, single handed on my Macgregor 26X.  I am over 50 and love the life.  I hope I can add some ideas from a woman's point of view.

Glad to have you aboard, for both the non-male perspective , and for the SB/LD cruising experience you have.

Personally, I only know of one other woman singlehander, her name's Pam. She came through this summer southbound, and must have liked it a lot, since she was still anchored over by Front Street (a public anch.) as of a month ago. She's on a Nor'Sea 27, "Pamdemonium".

Go ahead and carve yourself a spot out up in the SB/LD Cruisers topic, and tell us more about your travels, your boat, or whatever, if you'd like.

At this point I am very appreciative to have access to a site that is designed for smaller crusing boats. The boat I am working on is my third sail boat, the previous boats were purchased new and I did not have the work or research necessary to do the work that I am faced with now. I hope to complete next summer. Due to my age I did not want a boat bigger than 30', as i may be singlehanding most of the time. I am trying to keep things basic and simple ( I am finding that this is not as easy as it seems) there is a lot of gear, equipt available today. I do want to re-do all systems as I expect to spend several years crusing once I get started and would rather fix things correctly now , rather than wait untill I am on the water and do not have all my tools available. Due to the temperatures in NY right now I am taking projects into my heated garage to complete. I appreciate the advice I have already received on my next major project-re wiring.--- Keep up the good work!!!

Just signed on and nosing around.  Looks good.  Regarding your new dinghy that we were discussing the other night... looks like the same model as ours (RU260 or something like that) with the slatted floor.  My info says it is not a planing dinghy.  I use a little Merc 2.5 that I can carry with one hand; moves it around pretty decent.

Info may not say it planes, but compared to the Walker Bay it got up and scooted! Yippee yee hah! That was with only me in it, at 160#'s or so. Once I get the CrewDogs in there, I expect performance to drop off a bit. I may try a hard floor of my own making, see what that does. Hot-rodded inflatable! lol

This is a great site.  This is the first site I have actually spent much time on.  I feel the energy, enthusiasm and passion for the process in you folks.  I can almost sense your pulse's increasing as you write about your boats and experiences.   Man, I know the feeling!!
I feel for the ones who are wintered in!!  I get ancy if I miss 1 weekend getting to my boat.   I used to live in WV and I hated winters and cold.  I remember counting the days until spring.  Man, some of you guys have it a lot worse than I did, so I can only imagine.  I love Florida!!! 
I am already picking up good tips and info. here, not to mention encouragement to "live the dream. " You can sense the support on this site. 
This site truly has energy.  ( and weirdos   )

As to wiring...go slow, digram it out at the desk at home first, calculate the amp load, figure out how much juice is needed, add some for the 'wife and kids', go big on the guage of wire, size the fuses, no open terminals, keep electricity away from fuels, vent the battery, use good quality switches, and hide the wiring and remember that if it can go wrong it will go wrong...no short cuts.

Just modified the mast raising system on my boat, and will be writing an article with photos on my website soon.  Unfortunately, the Pretty Gee has been hauled out, and is awaiting hull painting...the waterline, as it currently exists, is too low in the stern, and barnacles are attacking her gelcoat.  UGH...
