Title: "Duck Dodge" sailboat race, Lake Union, Seattle
Post by: Frank on July 29, 2017, 12:25:25 AM
Well....it's been a while since I raced. Earlier this week I was asked to crew on an Erickson 29 in the famous "Duck Dodge" race on Lake Union.
In short....what an absolute HOOT!!
Take a reasonably small lake
Ad about 200 sailboats, a few power boats watching (in the way)
and yes...ducks.
Now...start a race.
What impressed me was how much fun it was!
3 starts depending how fast/serious you were (we started last)
Ad every type of boat ever made!
Some hot boats main sail alone cost 5 x what some of the entries entire boats were worth. I loved it!! Everyone was just out for fun!!
What a great cross section of sailboats and humanity...all out on the water enjoying sailing.
No one took things too seriously and smiles were all around.
A wonderful evening. Feel blessed to get invited.
