I really do not know why they have 9 foot tides. Best guess is marsh draining. I have seen a lot of it. Much better than dry. Maybe somebody from this area will let us know.

Holding is very good. Most people only use 1 anchor. In the narrower places I used bow and stern.

 ;D

And remember - those tides happen twice a day

The Jacksonville Beach area, where I built my trimaran, has 5 to 7 foot tide range. From about Savannah Ga north to above Charleston SC, the tide range can well be 9 feet. I experienced 7 to 9 along there.

At the high rise bridge just south of the St John's river on the ICW, I've seen standing waves on a full outgoing tide that were 3 feet tall. In fact I caught my knot head kids out in our little 12 foot skiff, surfing the durned things one time.

Actually, just before the photo was taken, we were discussing quantum physics and chaos theory with the pair of Hawaiian Tropic bikini models (Miss Harvard and Miss Stanford) who took our picture  - and who later *begged* us to run off with them.

So there...  :P
