Anyone planning a trip thru the canal system better check the website for the canal system. I heard on TV that it would take 3 months to repair the locks that were damaged--since they usually close middle of Nov. this could be a real problem for anyone that wants to transit. Along the canal at Rotterdam, NY (few miles from Albany) helicopters were picking people off rooftops. I live 30 mi west and we really got hit. In the town of Schoharie we have a home for sale and the homes on either side of ours as perhaps half of the homes on that street were condemmed--the homes on either side lost their foundations--there was approx 7' water over the ground with a strong current. I do not know where the damage to the canal is, as i am busy working on our home in Schoharie, so am urging anyone with travel plans to check the website----Irene was one angry women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
