exactly- the blocking is all under the cast iron ballast. The jack stands just hold it upright. Can't put too much pressure on them ( on most boats) or you'll deform the hull. In the pictures the jack stands are positioned where bulkheads are inside the boat for that reason.

Repairs all done.

Three coats of Interprotect on, one to go in an hour. This evening first coat of bottom paint, EARLY tomorrow AM second coat of bottom paint,  then two coats on where the jack stands are, finishing around dark tomorrow night, and we'll splash on Weds.

All the rain has missed me, and the temps are sitting in the low 80s, which sure helps stuff cure.

Sure will be glad to get this done ;D And I expect a dusty bilge after this!!!!

Ah yes, misery loves company, doesn't it. Two years ago I was going to sand the bottom down then apply two coats of bottom paint. I got all suited up withTyvex, resperator, gloves, etc. etc. After about one hour or so, I gave up. I hauled her up to a marina 60 miles away and hired them to do it. Oh ya, it cost a pretty penny :o but they did do a good job. I'm going to try to roll on another coat before "The Scoot" next summer. Wish me luck ::).

Tim- I wrapped up yesterday evening, secured the boat, and as I was stepping into the car to go home, the first drops of rain hit the windshield. Rained VERY hard, but after dark. I've been extremely fortunate with weather this haul out. We only had that one chilly day and we were sanding that day. No rain at all other than last night. Today was 81 degrees, so stuff is curing as it is supposed to.

Tomorrow is supposed to be dry and near 80.

First coat of bottom paint is on, I'll get to the boat about siunrise or a tad after in the morning to get the second one on. Then around noonish move the jackstands, paint where they were, then come back at dark and second coat those.

We splash on Weds ;D Probably close to noon. And I'd crash Weds night, except we are scheduled to drive somewhere for Thanksgiving.


I'm so counting on a dusty bilge after this.

I mean, I have picked up anchor that early, but I don't think I have ever started working on a boat that early, certainly not one in a yard! lol That's like against some Law of Nature or something. ;D

i have. On hot days, that's sometimes the only way to get a decent amount of working time.  Mid-day is sometimes too hot to work, especially if your doing epoxy-related stuff.

It's more about finding a day sunny enough to let the paint dry before...  ::)

We got Tehani back in the water Wednesday of last week. Uneventful launch, but coming home across the bay, I found a new (to me) leak  %&*%$#&@&!!!

This one was tiny, right where the rudder post tube enters the hull. About 4 inches or so below water. We COULD have ignored it, but we both want DRY BILGES!! SO what to do. Certainly didn't want to pay for another haulout.

The answer-

90 gallons of water in two drums on the bow, plus a five gallon jug and all our spare chain-

Here's the boat in normal trim so you can see how far down we had her rolled.



Got the leak up out of the water nicely. You can see the normal waterline from the antifouling on the outboard lower unit.



Some grinding, some fiberglass matt and cloth, some epoxy ( and two tries) and we have a dry bilge. I'm hoping to never hear the bilge pump run again ;D

Hey gal- great to hear from you, and very glad you are having fun . Hopefully we'll be joining you  over there sometime next fall. Laura has set a deadline- July next and we're done here. She's working now and stuffing money into a "cruising fund" She has a set goal, when that is reached, we be gone.

     Charlie, good job !  Tehani once again has the look of a fine lady.  I'm looking forward to getting mine out in the spring to scrape,sand and paint her bottom.  Actually I'm dreading it but oh well working on your boat beats "working".   I hope everything went well at the splash in.
