Title: Log Books.... (For those who actually use them)
Post by: cap-couillon on September 01, 2014, 08:25:03 AM
Stocking up for departure and need to get some new log books. As an ex-GI, have always liked the old GI "green book" for ships logs, stores lists, etc. If you were ever in the US military, you know the ones I mean.

I like the small (5.5" x 8") ones as you can slip 'em in a gallon zip-lock, but you can get larger sizes (8" x 10.5").

What do you use?

Best source I have found is straight from the Industries for the Blind, who supply the DOD with the mil-spec issue. $3.33 for the small ones, $4.41 for the larger ones, free shipping.

Wow, thanks for that! Those look perfect. I bought a so-called cruising log book when I was picking up my boat. I've done mostly day sailing this summer but I'm already chafing at the limitations of their pages. I will get a few of these.

Know what you mean... never have been one to color inside the lines, me.
These guys have 192 pages, lined each side. I can remember to enter heading, speed, and position with out a reminder. Plenty of room for additional comments as appropriate. Leave a blank line and start a new entry with time and date.  KISS as it were.

Really like the price, and they are built to last. Always keep a spare around for general maintenance notes, reminders of short stores, etc.

Glad it helped someone else.
