  Much better then David Letterman's 'Will it float?' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sketches_on_Letterman#Will_It_Float.3F) is the ongoing reality series played in the waters surrounding my boat.

Thought it might be fun to start a thread were we might be able to discuss small boat's Sailors playing 'Will it float?'





FWIW, brand new (less then a week) sunglasses do not float.  :-[

Vinyl guttering does not float, which actually surprised me.  I was using a couple of pieces as cushion between the mast and the rails on the little boat while trailering.  Last year I dropped one while lowering the mast on the water, and down she went.

Last Wednesday, I ALMOST got to find out if my screwdriver floats!!  I caught it though, which probably won't ever happen again.

Cell phones definitely do not float...especially if they leave your shirt pocket at 20 mph as you bend over to tie up the boat's docklines... ;)

My favourite set of wrenches do not float, either... that is the one or two that slipped out of my greasy hands last time I was tinkering..  :P

I found out the hard way...computers don't float too well.Seems they sink at a rate only slightly faster than your hand reaching for them. This message coming to you from my new Fujitsu ;-)

Favorite old hats float long enough to keep a spotter on them while you do you MOB quick stop drill, and then they sink as you approach.

The hat clips seem to work well, although they stain my collar with rust marks, and tangle my hair. I've gone through all my hats, except for one, which I intend to keep around a bit longer.  :(

The worst part of dropping a cell phone in the water is watching the light on the screen go out... when the phone shorts out... a buoy won't help until they make a cell phone that is IPX7 rated.

$200.00 prescription glasses hanging on your shirt collar while you bend over the dock to retrive a $2.99 roll of cushion you chased down 3 docks to catch! Also truck keys w/remote and tool box keys, dropped by my wife who said "oh S***!" then Splash! Called a diver for the keys which had a key float which only served to help the diver find them eaiser. Remarkably the remote still worked (GM)  Opened it up and it was dry as a bone inside.

Saturday Rose found out that her brand new cell phone was just like Dans... and sunk like a rock.

  Of course I was FAR too WISE to pay for the insurance...  :P

Thankfully the rake trick worked well, and I was able to bring the sim card back up from the briny depths and put it into my old phone.

LOL, how many feet did it go down before the lights went out??? Mine went about five or six... :D 

JEEPS DON'T FLOAT!

   My first time launching with my new-to-me standard shift 1990 Jeep Cherokee.  Backed it down the ramp shut it off, set the brake, jumped up on the dock to pull the boat off and tie it off.  By the time I got on the dock and picked up the dock line, the danged Jeep started moving backward!  Seems the brake didn't hold well and, as with standard transmissions, it began it's slow jerking motion down the ramp! 
   I jumped off the dock and grabbed the front bumper and started screaming for help.  But I couldn't hold it and the Jeep went in up to the roof.  By that time a guy in a truck came by and pulled Jeep and trailer out. 
   The most difficult thing about this was calling my wife and telling her to come and get me..."a little water in the carb" I explained to her...

Hmmm...sounds like a good title for my book  "The Day I Sank My Jeep"

I see this often enough in Fl with the green slime at the dock. 1 person ramps the boat, sets the emergency brake (the back tires being on the green slime), gets out and then the entire rig slides into the water.

Repeated tests prove that ratcheting screwdrivers will not float.

Sockets and cordless drills also don't float.  The cordless drill sometimes makes a noise when it goes in and the battery shorts... ;)

I did not know batteries wore shorts  ;D

These were very modest batteries. ;)

As a relatively new boat owner, I was much surprised to discover that nothing I owned floated once it cleared the toe rail.

Prescription sunglasses, cell phone, tool belt, myself (when tool belt is strapped to me), mast crutch, screwdriver
