This morning it looked so nice out I thought I'd leave it out.

Do you want to post them in your gallery?

Then click User Galleries.  You will need to create at least one album (you can put all your pics in one album, or have multiple ones).  Then, when you click "Upload File" in the top nav bar, you can upload the image file from your computer.  After the upload, you will be asked what album to put the file into.

You can embed pictures into your messages by using the "BBC Tag" button above (the one under the I for italics) to simply type the url between the img tags like this (remove the spaces I had to add to get it to post plain text):

[ i m g ] {url goes here} [ / i  m g ]

Hmm, dunno Ice - I'll check that and get back as soon as I know, prolly in a few minutes...

Edit: OK, should be fixed now. The per-user disk quota was only 1 megabyte. I have change that to 10 MB. If someone needs more than that, we'll see what we can do. Smiley

I would *assume* that multiple albums are possible, since it let you create another. Try it now and see what happens.

Lotta neat pics in those albums, Ice - Thanks!

To put a pic in a post, the post must have this code in it:

Code:
[img]pictures-URL-location[/img]

The pictures URL location is its "address" on the web.

Example:

This picture -

is at this address:

Code:
http://sailfar.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10012/normal_LMG.jpg

which I got by Right Clicking on the picture, and selecting "Copy Image Location", and then pasting that between those
Code:
[img] and [/img] tags.

If you click on the little picture icon in the "Add BBC Tags" area when you are writing a post, it will put in the "img" tags, and you just paste the picture URL in between them.

Note: I use the Firefox web browser - if you are using the Internet Exploder browser, it may say something slightly different than that, but what you want is the pictures location.

Tried to attach a photo to a post, but I couldn't get it to work.  The attachments upload directory was not writable, or something like that.  Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?  It happens everytime I try to attach a photo to a post.
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Bill, I don't think you can 'attach' photos to a post.

The method I use is to upload the photos to my gallery, then link to them using the img tags (or click the little link above that looks like a photo to insert the img tags into your post).

If for some reason you don't want to use SailFar's gallery (your same userid and pw will work if you get prompted for credentials), you can use photobucket or imageshack, etc.

Does this help?

If you're on a PC, you can use Google's Picasa software to manage your photos and also use it to upload them to the Picasa website, where you can open an account.  Makes it pretty easy to do.  Then post a link to the images over at your picasa account.

What I'm trying to do is use a photo in a post like Bob did here...

http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?topic=1226.0

... is this what you're describing using the gallery and an img tag?
Thanks for the help,
Bill

PS Just tried inserting the image tags, with the whole url from the gallery between the tags.  All I got was the white boxes with the red "X"....  Do I use a shortened address to include an image from the SailFar gallery?

Hi Bill -

This is the exact code that Bob used in that post:

Code:
[img width=650 height=430]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/BobWessel/f70706c5.jpg[/img]

In the preview, it is kind of hard to read, but it uses brackets, the straight (non-squiggly) version of these things:

{ } like so (made larger for easier visibility):

{img width=650 height=430}the URL goes here{/img} -

Note: replace the {} with []

Hope that helps you out!

I'll look into the attachments thing - it could be that we've just filled up the available space, and I need to add more. Smiley

Also, if you leave the width and height out, it should post the photo full size.

True, but...

One note about that: if a pic is posted which is wider than ~650, anyone with a screen set to 800 wide will have to sidescroll. Yuk! Smiley

Probably it is best to use the '650 width' value, but leave off the 'height' value, so that your pic doesn't get reproportioned incorrectly. Smiley

Code example of that:

{img width=650}the URL goes here{/img}

Thx for bringing that up, Dan.

You only want to use the width parameter if the photo is wider than 650 pixels, or I believe the software will upscale the photo to fill.. and that makes the smaller photos look really ugly.
