Title: A small inside the cabin addition
Post by: CharlieJ on February 05, 2015, 07:07:22 PM
For quite some time I've wanted a small shelf or rack to hold salt, pepper, Tony's, and other spices, handy, yet out of the way. So I finally built one.

It fits inside one of the settee backs, within reach of the stove, and totally out of the way

I think it turned out quite well
Some pics-

Looks nice!  Do you keep it in the settee back and then pull the whole thing out and set it somewhere when you're using it?  Or is the settee back hinged so you can reach in?  Can we have an in situ picture next time you cook something?

Hi Rach.

You know where the stove is on the port side on a bulkhead. When I open the settee back the rack will be lying open facing up, at hand from the settee on the other side. Stove on left, spices on right. Have to remove the seat back cushion of course.. Here's some pics of it all closed up, cushion gone, and settee back open, with the stove in the picture for scale

I had also wished that you had some other broader photos of the rack, so that I could see how it fit into the whole cabin layout, but RayLay and you seemed to have read my mind...  :)

Grog to you for sharing another interesting project, and for further personalizing and improving Tehani.

You've had several difficult events and situations to deal with. It's great to see you working on her again, and making and talking (as we did on chat) about your plans to take her East again, possibly in the spring.

Oh, sorry this isn't THAT kind of board!! DQ though...is the rack reversible?  IE, can you flip it over?  I'm wondering if the spices might dribble out laying flat.  Of course when you're on a 25-30 degree heel that won't matter  ;D ;D ;D

 ;D ;D ;D

If Tehani is at a 25-30 degree heel, I'm probably NOT using any spices!!

;D ;D ;D

But they are all sealed containers. The ones shown were just the few aboard after a long time not being aboard.

And no, it isn't reversible. It's screwed to the door.

Ahhhhh.  It all makes sense now.  As for Leroy's comment, if you were really worried about losing some of that Tony's when the door laid flat, you could always add a little chain or piece of line on the door so that it wouldn't open far enough to invert the bottles.  For dry spices with caps, it probably doesn't make much difference though.

Well, we're coming back to TX in a week and a half to work for a month.  My plans for the boat don't extend so far into the future.  My goal is to go somewhere Northish in the summer and then somewhere Southish when it gets cold.  Resisting making any plans more detailed than that.

ralay - that sounds very much like my plan which begins in July from Lake Michigan. Lots of 'south going' before I have to think about going North again.
