Title: Hazy compass bubble
Post by: DarrenC on March 11, 2014, 12:46:16 PM
Unfortunately I don't have a picture, but the bubble on my binnacle-mounted steering compass is hazed over so bad I can't even read the card.  I'm assuming it's sun damage.  It's definitely not glass - some kind of plexi or acrylic.

has anyone ever tried one of those products that claim to restore the plastic on hazy headlights?  Do they work?  Of so, I'm assuming this would be the same application.

Thanks!

The headlight cleaners do work on plastic headlights. They're just some kind of rubbing compound.

The would probably work on your compass. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Try cheap toothpaste first. I was able to get most of the micro-scratches off with toothpaste.
It did not fix yellowing, but it was good enough for me to see.

Toothpaste?  Really?

Holy Cow....The things you can learn when you think to ask!

I'm such a huge fan of tightwad solutions - Thanks so much!

If it is not too late, maybe you can take some before and after pictures to post?

Good luck!

You bet i will!

Of course this assumes that eventually it will stop snowing in this god forsaken latitude. This endless winter has gone beyond amusing and is bordering on complete madness.

Drinking rum in the Bahamas is sounding heavenly right now...

With you there- the last two days have been rainy and chilly- seems like the winter just WILL NOT quit.

Highs of 54, strong winds and all day slow rain- YUCK

Darren if the tooth past doesn't do it you can go as far as 2000 grit sand paper and 3M marine plastic  polish. This will also work well on cloudy port lights.
