Title: Nesting Double Dinghy?
Post by: ralay on December 07, 2015, 01:07:16 PM
We have copies of The Ocean Sailing Yacht Vol. I and II by Donald Street.  In one of the volumes, there's a description of a boat that has a 15' nesting, sailing dinghy.  It had a canoe stern and the two pieces could be used as individual rowing dinghies.  There's a black and white photo but not a very good one.  This sounds like the Holy Grail of cruising couple dinghies.  Has anyone ever heard/seen of such a dinghy?  Know of anywhere to get plans?

row in from where you are (or were) anchored, and talk to Graham  He has several rowing, sailing, nesting dinghies

We've been over there 2 or 3 times, but we've never been able to meet with anyone but the fellows working in his shop.  I saw some plans for small nesting dinghies on their site (catspaw?), but the two halves didn't seem like you could use them independently.  They were <4' long and open on one side.  The search continues.

Are you still anchored off? If so I'll call him tomorrow and see if you can meet. He's very open to ideas

No, we're not anchored off anymore.  I don't want to bother them as it's pretty unlikely we're actually going to build a new dinghy anytime soon.  It's more of a long term fantasy of not having to be connected at the hip.

We went out and back already.  It was a pretty great place to visit during the off-season.
