Title: Useful LED test
Post by: Owly055 on February 18, 2018, 03:49:05 PM
In a blog titled "One More Time Around", the writer explores some LED bulbs, mounting a number of them on a plank and comparing their brightness and current draw.  It's a short read, with two photos.

Power generation, storage and use is becoming increasingly important, both for lighting & nav uses, and for the many modern technology toys we have or want.   My biggest concern is storage.   Lithium technology is simply not up to a level of simplicity and rugged reliability suitable for use in boats yet in my opinion.   The chargers are too delicate, and are critical to the system, and of course the batteries are too finicky.   The numbers look superb, but the reality doesn't seem to match the numbers, but that's a different topic.  The cheapest and best "battery" is the block of ice, or fresh water made from salt water..... and the "conservation battery", which is to say, systems that use less power.  Of the latter, LED lighting ranks pretty high.
