Title: 2 old classics at the marina...
Post by: Frank on October 16, 2019, 10:29:19 PM
Something about a Nordica 20... Something...
Halman made a similar boat but the Nordica, to me, has nicer classic lines, window shapes and is just more "shippy"
Always have had a soft spot for them...

Then...

What's more classic than an Albin Vega.
Fast off the wind, capable, good looking and reasonable $$
The same designer drew the Albin 25 mini trawler.
Both those Albins sold thousands!!
He had a gift...

I owned a Vega for a time. Loved that littke boat.

Also got to meet Matt Rutherford in Annapolis a couple years ago. He's the guy that first circumnavigated the Americas; solo & non-stop.

Another very similar boat is the Havsfidra 20 designed by Lage Eklund in the mid sixties. Two of them were sailed in the 1968 OSTAR. Bertil Enbom came in 13th place,  40 days 14 hours and 13 minutes, similar to Chichester in the first race but with half the boat size. The second was sailed by small boat legend Åke Mattsson. He lost his water supply when his tank  sprung a leak and had water airdropped off Newfoundland and was disqualified.
Mattson sailed home via Greenland and also took one of the first production Vega's across the Atlantic.
