Until you look at the boat it is hard to say what is wrong. I know who bought a boat on ebay and was lied to so much. Inspect.
oh yeah it would be crazy to buy a boat and not go inspect it.
I bought mt boat on ebay at a ridiculous price. No information was available on it. The listing had a phone number for the marina but no one there knew anything about the boat. I was not able to go inspect the boat myself so I got the number for the repair shop at the marina and paid the hourly rate for one of the workers to eyeball the boat. He did moisture meter readings, which I wouldn't have done, and in the end gave it a thumbs up. I got a wonderful boat at a bargain price.

I also bought WanderBird, my Cape Dory 26D, on eBay. Never saw it in person until after the auction, but saw lots of pics and talked extensively with the owner. Got a wonderful boat at a great price. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb and move quickly to take advantage of an opportunity! ;)
IF you're interested in the boat and can go see it, I'd recommend you read my Boat Inspection Trip thread (http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?topic=1985.0).
I'd like a westsail but I'll buy one complete I mean how long would it take to complete this thing??
It depends... look at Frank's Electra project... that's been coming along nicely...and fairly quickly too.
This is far more than a project boat.
Its a bare hull. no deck, no rudder, no spars, no interior, nothing!
You would have to do everything from install a motor, to having a custom mast built...everything...design and build interior, build coach roof/cabin top, spars, sails, electrics, plumbing, steering...everything!!!!
Westsail sold their 'kit' boats in various stages of construction, one stage (this one) was nothing but a bare hull (hollow shell) and lead ballast.
This could take a few years and many thousands of dollars to complete, which is why the owner never got around to it in the first place... definately look for a completed Westsail if thats what you want. Or at the very least, one with deck/cabin, rudder, and spars completed.
I would guess that this could cost way more than the 30 or $40,000 asking price of a completed westsail 32, not to mention the couple of years it would take to complete.
(hows that quote go??)
"If you want to build a boat, build one...But if you want to go sailing, buy a sailboat".
I don't mean to say its not a nice find! it certainly is.
If your into building boats, this thing is a Gem. They stopped selling these almost 20 years ago, so to find one in practically brand new condition is very rare (i would guess).
But if you're trying to get a sailboat and go cruising, building a boat is the last thing you want to do.

I can definetely verify this. I've seen SO many 'projects' that for whatever reason never got finished. Waste of time and energy, and darn difficult to sell. If at all possible.
Unless the passion of your life is to build boats, stay away from it. The best buy is always a used boat, in good condition that just 'happens' to be equipped with more or less what you want...
just my 2 cents
I deffinatly don't want this boat I was really posting for anyone who wanted a major project boat LOL I'd rather buy one complete and fix it up a little not build it from scratch like this one, if I bought this I'd never see my dream of sailing around the world no way. just thought it was a neat find though.

If you can handle the project, it is most of the time better to start with a bare hull than to retrofit an old boat where you have to remove and replace everything and start again. Price wise, it is probably the same, and time wise also if you know what you are doing..
