Should be working but I find myself day dreaming about what the "perfect boat" is. I've come to the conclusion that a Triton has it all for an enexpensive ceruiser...the best set of compromises out there.
*looks
*seaworthy
*relatively shallow draft
*easily handled sails
*seperate head
*big enough Vberth
*standing headroom
*reasonably good storage
*low windage
*low price
*at 28ft...haul outs and storage will be reasonable
*those forward facing cabin ports for ventilation
*love how 'atoms voyages' site shows the port settee pulls out to a dble
All in all....pretty hard to beat and not big $$$ Great owners assoc. for info too
What's your 'best compromise' boat?
I would add my Cape Dory 28 to the same category. I actually had a line on 2 or 3 Tritons and the Cape Dory. The CD won for two reasons: Diesel and it was the closest to me.
Mine was exceptionally "not big $$," but that is why I'm still on working on her. :o)

Man, I can't get into work! ;D Today I'm dreaming Ariel again. Mostly all of the quality's of the Triton only smaller with easier to handle sails (cheaper too). Just gotta figure out a more private head arrangement. Heh...Capt K...how's your head construction coming? OK ..I'll try to work now ;D

You really put a cramp in my dreaming style when you said cost had to be a factor. I was until then having a great dream about a Bristol Channel Cutter ;)
No Frank you're not the only guy. I to am stuck in the same boat as you. Right now do to some limitions I can only dream but very shortly I will be able to get and go on my dream too.
I dunno about "dreaming" but since I have three I'm working on, and two of those pay me to do so, I DO spend a lot of my time THINKING about boats ;D
Got some work done inside one yesterday, waiting on the owner to ok some ideas. Meanwhile I headed to the marina to get half of the new lifelines installed on Tehani. Heading out in a few to finish with the other half.
Even if it IS gusting 32 :o

I dream alot at work about buying a sailboat and sailing where ever, so dam much I have to stop and say dam did I weld that or not and then I go look and was like dam I guess I did weld it. yeah it's pretty bad.
LOL chris, I never get that bad. You need to go sailing man! Couple of weeks on the boat and I am good for a month or two. I am like a cruiser, only I spend my on hook time back at the job (till they throw me out for writing on the net like this.)
I need to go on any boat really just to get out there
How close are you to the Miss. river? I'll pick you up when I do the great circle. I plan on splashing in Neb. and sailing south till I hit the keys ;D
I'm in Covington about 40 miles north or New Orleans so no not far at all from the Miss river. I got a small flatboat I use for fishing although need to get a new motor for it, I'm just to cheap right now I'm wanting to save for a sailboat LOL although thought about a small 5 hp for the boat just to putt around in and could use this motor then later when I get a sailboat for a small dingy to go along with it.
Do any of you all own a Honda outboard?? Seems like I have heard good things about them. What are you're thoughts or should i start another thread for this

You just a newbie about dreaming about boats I've been doing it for about 66 yrs, ever since I was 6 yrs old. Have owned a few too, now have two wish I had one!

not making the next ten years a dream hopefully end of the summer will become a reality. the heck with kids I'm making my dreams come true I have a plan and am doing pretty dam good to sticking with it.
My wife might say that I dream about boats more than 75% of my waking hours. I wonder why we fixate so much. Is it the idea of escape? freedom to go anywhere and have all you need with you? It must appeal to some sort of "simple life" romanticism...
I obsess and my wife has learned to just indulge me quickly and try to change the subject :) Thankfully, the local boatyard owner is a wonderfully patient and friendly man and allows me to wander about his yard and look at all the boats he's got for sale. Went today to see a Cape Dory 28. Beautiful boat... The woodwork below decks was really tasteful and added a lot to the warmth. Got home and dragged my wife through a slideshow of all the pics I took. Bless her for her patience.. 2010 season should be the end of dreaming of my own boat and crewing for others to get my fix...
Great question! While I do dream of other boats (ie Flicka, Dana 24) I find myself dreaming more about projects I wish I was doing instead of sitting at this desk doing work. Or even of the big dream of carting my boat off to Tim Lackey for a total rebuild from the keel up!

The dream of carting your boat off to Tim is only the beginning. He created mine from an old race boat. He did all the work but I got to do 1000's of hours of dreaming, planning and designing.
I still think I could might be able throw dreams back with Frank. Well Maybe :)
