...ran into this boat recently.
Can anyone help me identify what kind of boat this is?
I am curious as to its lineage - who made these and who designed them.
I think that is the owner in the picture, but I could not get past the gate to get close to the boat...
I forgot the name of this particular one; its home port was 'Alameda', California.
Thanks - Antonio
Anyone care to offer any guesses??
???
It looks somewhat like an Islander 30/31 or something, to me.
Could it be a Bill Lapworth design? It's got the graceful fore and aft overhangs. I'm not sure about those round ports, though.
Just a thought.

I'd vote for an 'Alberg 30' or 'Bristol 27' (also designed by Carl Alberg) both have the same doghouse cabintop, 2 large ports, 2 small ports etc

Oded,
Look at the ports on the mystery boat; they're rounded (the forward ones are actually round).
Both the Alberg 30 and Bristol 27 have squarish ports . . . but the hull shape is very Alberg-like.
I think you're getting close.

Cape dories didn't have the doghouse roof line and Alberg 30's had larger salon ports.....so ...if it is an Alberg30,someone filled in the original and reduced to the ones shown (a smart move as they were a very weak point for offshore with that large erea of glass)...OR...it may be a Philip Rhodes design ??? He drew BEAUTIFUL boats as well...but if him..who was the builder ???
Here are some details from that same picture...
This looks to me like Carl Alberg had something to do with it... but i have never seen this model in any of the sites.
I whish I had been able to have a chat with the owner...
I could not get to the dock easily and I was in a huff to get out for a sail...
Hmmm. It was a good sail too!
Looks like a Pearson Vanguard with different ports to me.

One detail caught my eye which is that the mystery boat seems to have the mast located somewhat forward of the second port while the Vanguard's mast is directly above the second port.
~OK
The fwd ports on the ? boat are not the same ones that were specked with a vanguard. I suspect they were replaced at the same time as the larger aft ports.
If I were going to change out the ports, I would probably fill in the old openings, and that would allow me to place them where ever I wanted.
I suspect that was the case with this one.
It would help if we knew the length and whether it was a full keel or fin keel design. My guess would be a full keel, given the looks of the rest of the boat...but you never know. Of course, if you could get the USCG documentation number, if the boat is documented, then we can find out pretty easily. :D
's/v Faith' Takes it - I think... Good eye with the replacement portholes. I would have suspected a Pearson, but the portholes threw me.
This was not a test. I saw this boat and really liked the looks of it. Makes sense since it shares similar lines (same designer - C Alberg) as my 'Commander'.
Adrift: I should have mentioned that I estimated it to be more than 30' but not larger than a 35'. I had no idea about the keel or docs - I could not get close. I got the pic with a zoom lens.
I have to keep this model in mind. I like it. I had never seen a vanguard in person.
Thanks everyone!
I disagree, the mast location, port type/locations, and angle of the stern entry and transom make me think it's still un-identified.
:)
"Hazardous" guess
Great Dane ?? ???

I can't identify the make and model, but assuming it has "standard" 2 ft life line stanchions, I'd guess the length at 33 ft to 37 ft...
