Hi,I ripped out my cabin liner today as the foam was shot and moldy. Can I get by with prepping and paint or do I need a liner to eliminate moisture buildup? Its a Albin Vega 27 Thank you
Dean,
Welcome aboard! Glad you found Sailfar, maybe when you get a chance you can tell us a little about yourself / your boat in the intro thread. (http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?topic=575)
Cabin liners usually serve 3 purposes. They hide fasteners and wires, they help a little with sound and temperature insulation, and they help cut down on condensation forming on the bare fiberglass (sweat). Many folks eliminate them and have no regrets. I have bare fiberglass on my boat, and have no problem with it, although it is a fiberglass liner so it probably sweats a built less then not having one at all.
I might consider going without it. Worse case you can always add it back later... sure would be better then the mildew.
Good luck!
