Title: meridian 25
Post by: evantica on March 02, 2009, 04:03:30 PM
Is the Meridian 25, worth the effort, in terms of serious long distance cruising/ sailing??? the one I found is from 1962, and in allright condition???

Hi Haken -

CJ and Laura would certainly think so. :)

They have one, she's named "Tehani", and is a real beauty (after much work by her owners). Following is a link to posts with "Tehani" in them here at sailFar - some are just words, I bet, but also there will be some pictures for you to drool over.

Welcome aboard, have a Grog!

"Tehani" links:

Well, that  attempt at linking didn't work!  :-[ ::) If you go to the Search page and type in Tehani, though, you'll see lots of links which *do* work. Search page:

I think you'd be completely satisfied with a Meridian. Tehani is hull #10, built in 1961 We feel her perfectly capable of any offshore trips we plan. Most definitely a blue water hull. We've had Tehani out in the Gulf of Mexico on passage for up to 3 days at a times (so far)

If you are looking at a Meridian, check the decks around the chain plates carefully. Tehani had rot there and I re-cored the side decks. I also moved the chain plates outboard to the sides of the hull- never again will she rot the decks there :D

Couple of pics, one of which shows the new chain plate location

Yes,  Meridian is a beautiful boat... and quite well suited for what you're looking to do. :)

Man Charlie, every time I see that last pic, I get a feeling inside. Just beautiful. Was that on Matagorda Bay, or out in the gulf? I have been down to the NE part of the bay a few times, just toting down the ICW, but have never really explored it.

Usually I try and go out to the gulf when weather permits, but would like to have something a bit more ... calm I guess  ;D

Ill have to bribe some of your good anchorages out of you, how do you feel about single malt?  ;D

 ;D

Not much on the single malt- we be rum drinkers here- and Shiner Bock

That shot was taken in Matagorda Bay on about July 3rd 3 years ago.

THIS video is sailing in the Gulf, about 25 miles out-

As for anchorages, come on down- we'll talk about any and all of 'em- or if the timing is right, SHOW 'em to you ;D

The cockpit coamings may have been removed at some point. Re-installing them isn't that big a deal though. :D

Sorry it was sold- it would have been a great cruiser.

That's the only picture I've ever seen of one without coamings. Tehani's were missing also and I laminated new ones- not quite as easy a job as Adrift lets on, but doable. The originals were screwed up through the deck into the edges of the solid coamings. Our new ones run down into the cockpit , are bolted in place, and set in epoxy. MUCH more solidly installed.

However- in that picture it looks as if the winches are mounted on the deck- strange, but I guess workable.
