I finally got to read this one. I got it yesterday and couldn't put it down till it was finished.

This is not your average cruising story.

3 complete strangers, 2 crew members who had never been on a sailboat before in their lives. and the 21 year old norwegian captain, set sail south from Cape Horn.

The Berserk, a stock Albin Vega, no head, an outboard motor (that almost never ran) no electronics except a vhf radio and 4 handheld gps units (3 of which were destroyed in a single incident!), and a brand new windvane that was blown away in force 12 winds on their first day at sea  :o

I don't think I can do this book justice by attempting a more detailed review.
It has incredible storms, iceburgs, mutiny, life and death decisions, camaraderie, introspective commentary, wildlife, insanity, terror, peace, and even paradise! and more sailing lessons than the best 'how-to cruise' book you've read.
You just have to read it for yourself. Its well worth the $5 pricetag. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1592282776/ref=sr_1_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224742975&sr=8-1)

Very much enjoyed the book.  Used to have a Vega which added to the fun.  These guys are lucky to be alive.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks Iceman for the book. I just uploaded it to my Kindle. So far I have 704 books in it's internal memory. 1/4 to 1/3 full....

Yeah, they upgraded to a larger steel beastie IIRC.

Not very good news, at this time - 'Berserk' appears to have been lost, likely with all crew.

What a tragedy! The original book, about crossing to Antarctica in an Albin Vega, is one of my all-time favorite sailing stories.

Mine too. Always sad to hear about loss of life and a boat.
