Title: The Reluctant Mariner by Joanna Hacket (I think!)
Post by: velpanore on March 18, 2009, 03:24:42 PM
I don't know if this will post in the Book Locker section, I am not too good at these things, but the book above is one I found to be an excellent read. Written by an Australian sailing wife I'm sure any first mates would enjoy it as well as any skippers with a sense of humour.

About a world cruise from Australia, west about, I couldn't put it down.

Yep! that's the author (minor misspelling - Joanna Hackett).

The ISBN-10 is 1864367067, ISBN-13 is 978-1864367065 for the paperback. The book is apparently out of print and apparently popular. The prices I'm finding online (in Canadian dollars) range from $35 to $207!

The book reviews make it sound delightful. Not quite a small boat voyage (40'), but the low initial experience and make-do attitude sound just about perfect for SBLD sailors. I'll have to see if any of my other networks might be able to find it for less money.
