I just finished reading Carl Safina's The View from Lazy Point on my Kindle.
He's a marine scientist who writes like an old-time naturalist and philosopher. His prose is lyric, his reporting on the changing marine environment is disturbing--and I found his philosophical insights illuminating. (Of course, he seems to share all my biases, which makes him a genius.)
He's also written other books on the ocean, which I plan to read someday.
