At the prompting of Dan/Adrift and Frank, I'd been doing some research into seeing what it would take to create a simple, fast way for folks with the small screens (and sometimes slower connections) found on phones and other mobile devices to access our Forum as easily as possible.
Well, it was an easy fix - it's built-in to the software. ;D
Right now the following 3 protocols are supported: wap, wap2, and imode.
The forum software tries to detect what protocol your device is using when you connect to the base URL for the forum (this one: http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php? ). If that works, it automagically sends you properly formatted pages. I tried it on my phone and it worked well.
If you run into difficulty, and happen to know which protocol your device uses, here are protocol-specific links that you can access:
http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?wap
http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?wap2
http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?imode
Also, if you are on dial-up, this could save you some time - I noticed that my web browser (Mozilla Firefox) will pull up the forum in a very basic, simple, and fast format using any of the 3 URL's above.
Very cool... I'll have to try this from my cell phone. :) I'm running Opera on it right now. Grog to ya CapnK.
Cool beans. Played on my phone with it and it works great. Grog to Kurt. I won't use it much (I almost always have my laptop and use a cellular data card, so if the phone works so does the laptop), but it is definitely cool.
Wow!
Great stuff on stollen borrowed wi-fi connections!
Thanks Kurt!
Please know that this 'grog' is really root beer, in light of your 'problem'. ;)
