Defender is having their annual fall boatshow sale. Just a month or so ago, when scrambling around to get the boats ready for Dorian, I (re)discovered a couple Defender Gift Certificates from Xmas of '17 worth $150. Happy day! :)
Defender has the Manson Boss in 2 sizes on Clearance right now, in stock are 2x 25#er's and 8x 35#er's (it was 3x 25#er's, but I ordered one ;D ). Had a Lewmar Claw stolen last year as I prepped for a hurricane, so this'll become my new bowser for Katie. S'posed to be for boats 25-35' LOA, so should be plenty big for most use...
Reviews seem to be pretty good on it, has anyone here use(d) one?
Did you try dragging a grappling hook to pick up the rode on the anchor you lost in Dorian? I have recovered two anchors that way. The rode is usually laid out in a straight line, and runs perpendicular to the suspected line is productive.
it was stolen off the dock Norman
2 different anchors, actually. :)
The one Norman is referring to is a Fortress FX-7 that was holding Katie, and the rode parted during Dorian.
The stolen one CJ refers to was last year, a Lewmar Claw 25# IIRC. I was apportioning anchors and rodes, had them all out on the dock behind the various boats for which I was going to use them. Left dock for lunch and some errands, came back a couple hours later and someone had come by boat and stolen it. It would have been obvious to any boater what I was intending to do with it, so it was a really scuzzy thing to do.
Anchor came in yesterday. This thing is 'uge! For it's size, it seems relatively lightweight, so I think that's a good thing - utilizing more surface area for holding, putting less dependence on weight.
They say that you know you have the right size of anchor when your dock neighbors make fun of it. ;)
I'm pretty sure that'll be happening. ;D But it should hold well in a blow!
