Title: propane selenoid "stuck"....any advice?
Post by: Frank on February 04, 2014, 11:30:54 AM
We have 2 full 10 lber's but can't cook  ;D
I quit smoking last year...would be like having 2 packs of smokes and no lighter  :o

anyhoot...salt air is evil!! There is power going to the selenoid....but it won't open.

Any advice appreciated.

PS...I've sprayed it liberally with WD40 and tapped it a gazillion times...no luck.

Might be time for a new solenoid  ??? There was a recent thread on the SBO Cruiser forum http://cruising.sailboatowners.com/csbb/index.cgi/page/2/md/read/id/200310/sbj/yikes-it-s-hot-in-there/ (http://cruising.sailboatowners.com/csbb/index.cgi/page/2/md/read/id/200310/sbj/yikes-it-s-hot-in-there/)

Frank,

There is a steel rod that has a plunger on the end that opens and closes the valve.  I think you would have to get something like on blaster inside the solenoid to free it.. Of course then you will have some oil in your propane line.

Thanks guys. No "new selenoid" while here in the Abacos....
I'll try blasting inside the line. No coffee in the a.m. makes for
a poor start to the day ....even our dog gets grumpy   ;D ;)

I am at Black Point Frank, I am on my way...  Hate to ask you to wait a couple weeks for coffee though.  :o

G down to the beach, get some drift wood and build a fire man... You can not go without coffee!

(What else are you going to pour your rum into first thing in the morning?)
