Flicka Passage

As per Connie's previous post..this 'just in' on the Flicka site. Surely counts for "small boat-long distance" type story ;-)         .............................."We are on the Rio Dulce River in Guatemala after a great 8 1/2 day non
stop passage. Left Key West April 3 and arrived in Port Livingston the
11th. The customs official said in his 7 years in office we have been
the smallest vessel to check in!! All the officials in the boarding
party,immigration, port doctor, customs, port captian and the water
taxi driver had big smiles on their faces when they approached my
Flicka.

Guatemala is beautiful! The river is spectacular!

You can not truly appreciate a Flicka until you have made a substantial
passage in one.

We leave this Sunday to head back to Marathon Fl. We will travel up
through Belize and Mexico and jump off from Isla Mujeres and head to
the Dry Tortugas for a day then to Key West to check in and then back
to Marathon.

Frank, yes, these are the guys that our waiter was telling us about.  He is friends with them and he had just received the call that they had just arrived in Guatamala safe and had a wonderful trip.  A group of us were having dinner at Burdines here in Marathon.  I knew you would be interested in that little Flicka adventure.

Actually, from what I've been told, they still make them in batches every few years... but they have a minimum number they need before they'll do the work..

No production date in the future. An interesting thing about this book is that he singlehanded most of the way. A good read.

Adrift...they tried to re introduce them in 02 with a much lighter lay-up and less teak etc at a reduced price but they were still too expensive to get their minimum orders to produce. The project has been shelved.If..if they ever are to be built again it will not be to the same standard as the originals were.Although the hull lay up stayed the same...the later ones from mid 80's to the last in 98 had a host of features not seen in the previous years. Anyone considering a flicka should spend some time learning the differences. From 93 up they also had vinylester as a 1st layer.I would reccomend a 93-98 simply because of the multitude of standard features and the vinylester used.You pay a bit more but get a lot more.

If you go back to the opening post on this thead...here's the ending........."We dropped anchor in Key West harbor at 12:48am May 13,2007.

Right now it is hard to describe this voyage. It was "Wonderful, Life changing & Soul altering."

As Mike put it so well "Now instead of dreaming, we can remember."

Once we re-adjust to reality we will try and put something together for Flicka Friends.

Now get out there and make your own memories! Your life will never be the same.
