Thomas Kydd Chronicles by Julian Stockwin

http://www.julianstockwin.com

There are many writers of seagoing sagas available for sailors to enjoy – most of them writing of adventures in the eighteenth century.  These stories span several volumes and the main characters pass through the ranks on different ships.  The author frequently weaves the plots around actual histrionic events and uses the characters to draw out traditions and practices of the era.
But most of the authors take a well-worn course and it is most than refreshing to find one who is different.  Julian Stockwin  is a case in point.  Mr. Stockwin's series revolves around Thomas Kydd who is pressed into the navy and starts the journey from below the decks.  We, the readers are taken from that point onto the officer ranks and into the levels  of command.  I devour them.  I started buying them in the States and bringing them to Japan.  Then I learned they are printed in the U.K. well ahead of American publishers.  Further, there is a dealer in Kyoto, "Page and Leaf" that specializes in a small line of books printed in the U'K – including signature editions of Mr. Stockwin's latest book, 'Tenacious'.
As I was putting some links on this page I decided to list Mr. Stockwin for those looking for a diversion from texts and manuals.  That led me to looking at his home page where I found a wealth of information that the author uses to round our his background knowledge and a place for his readers to share their seafaring lives.  As I did with all the links, I sent a note to the author and offered to remove the link if he requested.  He wrote a brief and kind response and put a BLISS link s on his site.
For you Potter folks – in the U.K. and in the States - you can bet I'll find a way to work our fine little craft into Mr Stockwin's site...
You should know we are now finished with volume 6 of 11 or 12.  Better get started!
