Would anyone out there know the size of wire on my Venture 224 and what size of turnbuckle would i need to get?

Marc -

If no one here has that particular boat, and you can't find the info elsewhere, I can do the calculations for you as to what you will need.

But - you might want to ask over at the TSBB (the Trailersailor.com bulletin board), it's more than likely that someone there will have one of your sister ships, and might have the info.

More than likely the wire is 1/8th, with turn buckles to suit. The real criteria for the turnbuckles is the holes in the chain plates for the clevis pins. Turnbuckles should have clevises to match.

Our 21 footer used 1/8 wire and I believe had 1/4 clevis pins.

Our 25 full keel 25 footer uses 3/16 wire and turnbuckles with 3/8 clevises, just for comparision.

The Macgregors now use shroud adjusters instead of turnbuckles. I don't know if the earlier ones did or not.

Have your tried on the Mac Forum?

Somebody might know. I know on my Mac 26M is 3/16.

As said above 1/8 should be fine.

Try http://bwyachts.com/
They are an authorized MacGregor parts dealier.
They may have it in stock. My forstay cost $ 60 with all the fittings made up.

Generally, if you measure the clevis pins, the wire is half the diameter of the pins. :)
