A buddy of mine is getting tired of me telling him that he can't borrow
my boat.I live on it.We're going looking for something for him today and tomorrow.

Does anyone know the reputation of the early 70's coronado 27?

Not knowing your location and doing a quick web search I came up with this link to a number of Coronado 27  http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/Coronado/1

A chap here in MD bought one a couple of summers ago that was washed up on a beach for a couple of hundred dollars, spent a month or so fixing it up, and moved on board.  While I don't know much about the historical, sailing, or build qualities of the Coronado, I can say that this particular boat, while dirty and neglected, appeared sound despite the best efforts of the previous owner.  I don't recall seeing any blisters.  The deck felt solid underfoot.  It was very roomy inside.  Last I heard "Anxious" was hanging about in the Baltimore area, somewhere.

There used to be a website around of an infamous old usenet denizen named Capt. Neal who reportedly lived aboard a yellow Coronado 27 named Cut The Mustard.  I'm stuck in Atlanta for a month so don't have access to my old links (and google isn't turning up a current site) but if you can find the page it is a humorous read.  Of course, some in the online world have dismissed him as a freak, idiot, and fraud.    Personally, I like his style.

Funny you should mention that Adam.  The 3 I have seen / had experience with / were either abandoned (saw the third one just 2 days ago... it had parted it's mooring and was heeled over in the reeds in Panama City).

I helped a friend work on his Coronado 28... his title said 28'... but it was the same boat I have seen referred to as a 27'.  THis particular boat, (the former Caroline 'E') had wanted for some basic maintenance for most of it's life... among the tough things it had experienced were a painting inside and out with 'deck paint'... an alkaloid enamel that a common 'wives tale' claims makes an acceptable boat paint.  This boat showed otherwise.... Other sufferances were that the shallow bilge did not allow easy placement of an automatic bilge pump and the water that had stood in the bilge had turned the keep bolts into vaguely rounded mounds or rust.  ::)

There was also a criminal application of silicone calk... all over...  :P

Having said all that, I helped the owner rebuild/beef up the transom and do some other stuff on the boat.  It seemed to me that the lay up of this particular boat was a little on the light side.. the transom had been deformed by the weight of the outboard. Something to look at.

He never got to sail it much, so I can not comment on that but it did have a good amount of space in the cabin, and he lived aboard quite comfortably at the dock for a year or so.  The ports leaked, but other then that he seemed happy with it.  THere was enough room for 4 men to sit at the dinette if I recall correctly due to configuration of the cabin top.
