Long before I possessed the 'ultimate luxury' of a pressure cooker, I found this method of cooking rice to be very easy and kind on the 'fuel for the stove expense account'.

Simply pour 2 cups of water for each cup of rice (I preferr Basmati too) in a pot, lid on, then fire up the stove and bring to cooking. Let simmer for a few minutes -not really necessary - and then unlit the stove.... and wait. After half an hour at most the rice is ready, and your fuel expenses reduced. Voila!  :D
