Moving my new to me E27 from Vallejo to my slip in Berkeley Friday am to catch the outgoing tide.In theory
it should take 5-6 hours.

If you want to come with and help steer I'll be paying for BART,beer and ferry to Vallejo.

Good luck with the trip.  Would love to help.

Grew up there, and spent many hours (years) looking at the bay.  Only sailed there as a kid, and would sure love to do some sailing there...... (lets see, just a little south from here... and then a little ditch ride... then a little north... hum...  ::)

Well actually you wouldn't need to bring Faith around and up, I know where there's a boat on the Bay you'd be welcome to sail on that wouldn't take much getting use to  ;)

Sharkbait -

I'd love to crew for you but I won't be able to break away.  Vallejo to Berkeley could be on the short side of 5 hours.   Have a safe trip, and take pictures!

What dock will you be on in Berkeley?

All of a sudden I realized we have a nice little Sail Far fleet in the Bay Area!  :)

Halyard R&R went well.I melted the ends of the old and new together, then after some judicious trimming sewed across the joint, then I merely pulled out the old and pulled in the new. There were no acrobatics involved. The whole thing took about an hour and a half.So I got to spend the late morning and early afternoon checking out Vallejo. It's a nice quiet place.San Pablo bay doesn't get the wind that the central bay does, but they also don't get as much gunfire.I'm thinking about making it my new base.Maybe I spent too much time in Oakland last week.

SP BAY IS TRICKY. One needs to be careful, the winds can change up on you. And  A LOT of it is shallow.

We should get burgees, but how does one reflect the multi-cultural sensibility's of Nor-Cal?

I'll suggest a 7 pointed leaf combined with a cocked wine glass.

Zen,

I also found out that it's warm in Vallejo.

How about a profile of Alcatraz on a grass green field?   ::)
Oh well, I moved back to Oregon in 1970 so what do I know?

Looks like Sharkbait has excellent conditions for his Vallejo to Berkeley trip this morning.  High slack water at Davis Point (nearly opposite the mouth of the Napa River is (was?) at 0816, with light west winds (true he is heading west through San Pablo Bay) until this afternoon when the winds are expected to increase.   By then he should have turned south around Pt. San Pablo and enjoying a beam reach with an ebb tide.  Davis Point to Point San Pablo is about 11 miles.

Forecasts call for a small craft warning on the Bay this afternoon.

Hope all goes well.

"Forecasts call for a small craft warning on the Bay this afternoon. "

According to my Coast Guard instructor, CG Island never takes it's Small craft warning flag down, as there is always that here on the Bay.

Well, the CG may not drop the flag, but the Bay is not always huffing and puffing.  :)

Here's a pic from the Three Bridge Fiasco - with us just bobbing along in very mild conditions on a pretty Saturday afternoon in January 2005.
