Homemade Handholes

Does anyone out there have any experience working with brazilian walnut?  I  think I will use this to make my own brightwork rather than ordering teak for my restoration.  Is there a pattern I can get to make the handholes?  Marc

Yes that is what I am talking about.  9 times out of 10 I'm writing the stuff at about 0430 and my mind is not quite awake yet.

It really depends on how long the rails are, and how the spacing for the bolts holding to the boat are located.

Hi Marc -

The simple way to make handrails is to get your wood, sized large enough to make both rails when it gets cut down the middle.

Then after you determine where the handholds need to be, you use a hole saw to make holes (red cuts, below), one at each end of where you want the handhold spaces to be.

Then you saw from the edge of one hole to the other (blue cuts, below).

After you make the handholds, you saw the board in half lengthwise, and voila'! :)
