Anyone know what these boats are?

I like the cockpit woodwork on one.

The other looks like a Flicka but seems too small

The bow looks similar to a flicka, but the cabin is different and it sits too low on the trailer. The other may be an older late 60's era Ericson 33ft. Happy easter to you as well. I hid my eggs last night....still can't find them  :o

The first one does look like it might be a Vanguard, and the lil' one a catboat of some sort. Is that a long bowsprit it has?

Frank - look under the pile of beer cans.

Just got an email from Rachel, who for some reason cannot log in. She says-

"Boat number 1 *might* be a Cheoy Lee of some sort, but I can't tell for sure.  Not a Vanguard.

Boat number 2 is definitely a Blackwatch 19.  Customarily a cutter, although Norm has a (probably one-off) cat-rigged one.

There, got that out of my system."

I just noticed it at the local yard, described as '27' boat'.

This boat sailed into the harbor here in Culebra yesterday and sailed out this morning before I got a chance to dinghy over and talk to them.  Its a gorgous boat but I cant figure out what it is, I thought you folks here would be the experts and might be able to ID it.  Its fibreglass so I beleive it is a production boat and not a one off, my guess at length is about 27 or 28 feet, when comparing it to a Cape Dory 25D anchored nearby.  Note the rather short coach roof which ends before reaching the mast, much like a llyel hess design, but it is definately not a BCC or a Falmouth Cutter.  The rig is very tall, with a bowsprit but no bumkin, which leads me to beleive it is not a hess design at all (his rigs are low aspect).

Any ideas? Its going to drive me nuts until I know!

Norm

dollars to donuts it is a Cape Georges Cutter

The cabin extends way too far forward on the CG 31. Note in the pic how the cabin stops aft of the mast...on the drawing of the 31 it extends forward of the mast..

Hmmm... then it isn't a Cape George 31... the other bits look about right though, even the rubrail and bobstay.  Could it be a modified Cape George design??  It appears to be a pilot cutter design of some sort, not the Falmouth Cutter either though.  was the 28' measurement LOD or LOA???

Who did Lyle Hess get the idea for the BCC from?

search 'channel cutter'....they've been sailing English waters for over a century... beauties aren't they. The one in the pic (or the 31) is way too upswept at the bow and doesn't have a plumb stern like a channel cutter. I've seen 2 boats similar to the pic in Bahamas...no name tho?

As I recall, Cape George Cutters are built with a fiberglass hull, and wood deck and cabin.  I also recall hearing that no two Cape George Cutters are exactly alike.  Since they are semi-custom, I think it is highly possible that they built a boat with a short cabin.

Assuming it is a keel stepped mast, it actually makes a lot of sense to keep the cabin short.  Supporting the mast at the deck is far stronger than through the cabin.  Does kinda mess up headroom, though.
