Had to make a parts run to the resale shop in Kemah today ( I get withdrawal symptoms if I miss my monthly trip), they are starting to get in more salvage - evidently from the hurricane.  Checked on Capt Ron's old boat - it is still afloat but looks really bad.  topsides are fading out/ brightwork is sad & they painted the masts the most gawd awful green.
I asked everyone I came in contact with today about where they were taking all the salvage - couldn't get a straight answer.  Anyone have any ideas how to track this down?  Will the boat insurance company's help?

man that just stinks. I have wonderd how the people of Houston and all are doing. I know here in Louisiana when Gustav came it's all they talked about but man Texas sure did get hit bad but they don't say anything on TV about it here.

Having lived in that are for years and visited recently.

Every direct hit hurricane does this kind of damage in Clearlake area. The people that got really hit was in the coastal area that are lower than 12 feet above sea level. everybody else did well enough. for a Cat 3 Hurricane. That was expected. Roof and tree damage mostly. No major storm in years so a lot of soft spots.

Every area has its problems.  Some people take caution to them and others do not.

What has not bee told  is if this was a Cat 5 storm there is enough chemical waste in the ship chanel area that would be washed about to make from downtown Houston  to Galveston unfit to live and kill everything in the Gulf of Mexico for years. No storm like that has happened for over 100 years.

I was in Baytown two Mondays ago at the Bayland Marina. Went to assist my friend decide what to do about repairs to his boat ( PSC 25)

The entire marina there, some 100 boats, floated off the pilings and went ashore some 400 yards away. All the boats are still in the slips, still tied to the docks, but aground. My buddy got his repaired and just Saturday, managed to get his boat back into the water. He was closest to the back side, nearest the water. The city is going to hire cranes to remove and stack docks, and hoist boats to the parking area where they'll be shored up.. The owners are going to be charged by the foot for this.

Here's a link to some pictures of the PSC 25 going back into the water-

There are many many boats that have just slight damage, but are sitting ashore. Another friend of mine is the county marine agent here- her boat was in Galveston. It's now sitting 8 feet up an embankment, leaning against a tree, right behind an apartment building- absolute zero room to get a land based crane in there. The boat is basically undamaged-so far.

Hundreds upon hundreds of boats are ashore though, some as much as 3 miles away from the now nearest waters Cities out on the peninsula are devastated- Bridge City, Anauhac, etc had serious flooding.  The city of Giilcrest is simply gone. Of 1000 structures pre Ike, one  or two remain. The town may not ever be rebuilt, because of coastal terrain changes, and Texas Open Beaches Act. They may now be beach- it's all sand there anyway now- zero wreckage to sift through. Plus there are still over 300 people missing , unaccounted for. They may never find them.. One womans body was found inland NINE MILES from where she was trying to shelter.
