Smollett is headed N on the ICW as of this afternoon. Don't know if you are heading south right now or not, but maybe y'als path will cross. I would expect he'll be approaching the SC/NC state line Mon night, Southport Tueday'ish, then Wilmington/Wrightsville the day after... He's on an Alberg 30, outboard motor on a mount at the stern, bright green bottom paint - if that'll help you recognize him. :)

When will you be down this way? Planning to stop in?

What about you, Ron?

Here's a link to the latest on Fernando's Atlantic crossing on the Triton Pajaro:

James -

Do you happen to know what radar reflctor Fernando is using? TIA!

This passage from his site caught my eye, made me wonder:

QuoteThat night I had this big luxurious ship coming straight at me. I watched her for a variation on her course but the colored lights where just getting bigger every minute. I decided to contact them, to make sure they had seen me. "Motor Vessel Starfire, bound to Gibraltar, yes, we see you, we just wanted to take a closer look..". They reported to me that Pájaro jumped "in and out" of their radar 18 miles ago and settled to a steady signal at a distance of 8 miles. It made me very happy to know the radar reflector was useful.

I am in Oriental NC now and heading South and planing on stopping by.

Smollett should cross my path if I am not hiding in some shallow water anchorage.

Wrightsville Beach has way to many powerboats for me to want to anchor there again. It has a  very nice beach.

Doing a fas trip south. See you in 2 weeks or less.  I will  call the day before I arrive.

Well, there is someone here now who can answer this question, and many more, with very much detail:

Welcome aboard, Fernando/"Pájaronoid"! ;D

Last time I had read Fernando's website, he was out in the middle of the Atlantic somewhere. He's back home in the Canaries now, after a successful crossing. It had been a while since I'd visited his site - it was good to read that the journey went so well, Fernando! :)

I don't recall Fernando had anything other than one of those cheap little folding reflectors that may have been in his locker - at least I don't see it here.

He may have hidden it while visiting here in Brunswick - probably after I scoffed at it.
Some folks assume their reflector works because a ship reports they see them on radar. Being skeptical on these things I'd rather have two reports from the same ship - one with the reflector up and another with it folded or stowed in a locker as low as possible...

I have never thought of that. But im going to do that next chance I get. With my reflector up then down. I always wonder if it works.Thats simple easy way to find out. Good tip thanx :)
