Hi guys, I am thinking hard aboat a larger boat for a number of reasons and have found one close enough by to give a look see. The boat is  84 Morgan 32' with 11.5 beam and 4, draft. Thing is I know nothing about Morgans or to many other boats so if any of you have some info I would love to hear it. I hope that this is a boat that would do some real off shore and coastal work too. Any input is great. Oh, asking price for the Morgan is $17,000.

What year is the boat?  $17,000 sounds a bit low for a Morgan 32, so the boat you're looking at might be in need of some work.  I'd highly recommend that you read this thread I started on Boat Inspection Trip Tips, before you go to see the boat.

Good luck and keep us posted.

WildOne - The vintage Morgans have a pretty good rep, from what I've heard, as far as the design and such... I don't know them really well, though.

With any boat of that age, take a really good look at: blistering of the hull, deck core rot, bulkheads and chainplates, especially if the two are connected through the deck. Rigging - if it's older than say 10 years, plan on replacing that. Same for the sails. Auxiliary engine? Other systems, like plumbing and electrical? Steering, if there is a wheel... Lots of stuff to look for.

Is there an owners group out there somewhere that you can get info from? That is the best source - people who have had the issues, and know what to look for. :)

BTW - where are you located at? It might help if you were near a sailFar member who could act as a second set of eyes for you. :)

Have you looked at the boat info site on the discussion website www.ssca.org? If you do not find that particular Morgan you can pose a question. You can also write Charlie Morgan. He is responsive to questions. Dan
