Rhodes Ranger 28'

I've been looking for information on the Rhodes Ranger. Today, I looked at an unfinished RR 28' hull near St Louis Mo. Apparently, most RR 28's were built in Holland from 1959-1964 or so. Seafarer sold the boats in the US. About 1965 they brought the molds back to the US. I don't know if they made any more RR 28's after that, but I was told by the owner of the unfinished hull, that a company in St. Louis Mo. acquired the molds for the RR 28, and made 8 hulls for local people. The hull I looked at today was one of those. It is completely unfinished inside, but looks practically new. The underbody has been modified from the original Rhodes Ranger, in that a centerboard was added, and the rudder was moved aft from the keel to a skeg. The rudder on this hull was not installed yet, but he had it attached to the SS shaft. He also had 4 opening ports, a new alcohol stove, the stanchions, hatches, and a new refrigeration coil. There is no mast or rigging with the hull, and no mast step. A trailer comes with the hull, and could be road legal with lights, but there are no brakes.

I was looking for a project, but I'm not happy with rudder change, and centerboard modification. The owner wants $4000.00 or a jetski for the hull. What do you think? Anyone want to build a boat?

$4000 is a lot of money for a boat without a mast or any rigging.  The mast and rigging is pretty expensive to add, and you'd have to buy sails.... so IMHO, you'd be better off looking at a boat that has a mast, boom and sails... :D

The trailer is $4000.00, the boat is free. I know of an aluminum mast for $400.00 that is the right size.

It is a good project for someone with the skills and time. Not good for someone just looking for a boat to sail. I was intrigued by the prospect of having a basically new boat when finished.
