Damage control equipment.

There are many many things that could be carried to be used 'just in case' for damage control.

  Most problems encountered will be fixed with whatever supplies you have on board.  There are some things that are 'mandatory' like seizing wire, duct tape, spare clamps, and that stick of underwater epoxy.

  I just came across something that seems to make a buch of sense to me, and it is only $3.95!

I have a bag 'o' bungs right now, it has half a dozen bungs in different sizes.  How about a couple of these?



Lehman's Double Bung, fits all

* Drive either end into bung hole for tight fit no matter the size
    * One end tapers from 1 ¾" to 2"
    * The other end tapers from 1 3/16" to 1 3/4"
    * Hardwood sanded smooth
    * Made locally by an Amish craftsman

  Conventional logic says to have one bung sized to fit each through hull tied to the corresponding through-hull.  That is all well and good as long as the through-hull falls out nicely and leaves a clean hole to bang that bung into.  What if the hose breaks?  Maybe the handy bung is no longer so handy.....

  A couple of bungs that fit a bunch of holes seems like a good thing to me.

However, I notice that these nifty, Amish-made items are "made of hardwood."

Could that be a probolem?

I always thought you wanted plugs to be a bit soft.

Not a bad idea. Of course, being the Luddite I am, I just got rid of all the through hulls-no openings below the water line at all- grin

They might be worth checking out. They're made from tupelo wood, which is, according to the catalog, supposed to swell when wet. (Us Northerners don't know much from tupelo--except that it's the name of Elvis's hometown. 8) )

Yup,

  That set from Plastmo is the set I have right now.  I think I bought it at Fawcets in Annapolis.
