Way to go, Bill! Yer gonna love it. :)

A 1 gallon ex-bleach jug with an "access" ;D hole cut in the 'shoulder' makes a great, not-likely-to-spill container to keep handy by the companionway on a cold winters night, for when you just don't feel like stepping out onto a freezing cold, windswept dock... Holds a lot more than a cup. hehe

At least, that's what I read in a book somewhere...  ::) ;)

Gator Aid bottles work great, too. Just be sure you label it well  ;D

The caps are good and tight, so you can use 'em while under way, too.

Put a little sugar in the bottom and you won't get much smell until you dump it out.

Good one. That got me thinking. In my reef tank(s) I have used sugar before. It helps boost the bacteria energy levels to help them process up all the other nasties in the water. Used it in my compost piles as well. Im wondering about using it in my composting head to help with the process? Might have a smell as the cycle is pushed into overdrive, but underway, might not be too bad, just for a day or so until everything is used up?

Sorry, bit off topic.

Hope your live aboard is going well! Im jealous! Keep us posted!

The manual with my Nature Way composting head suggests adding sugar to the urine bottle for this very reason.

I talked to Bill. He is in the water but at the dock fixing the last problems and expects to be moving South this week.

hi yall, sorry I been away so long..I been buying $40 bolts and snapping them off then getting in a fist fight the A4. lol. I have been blowing the cabin light bulbs like crazy. you can tell they been in here a long time and I went out and bought a bunch of'em and it turns out I only have two left of the old ones. bet ya they will last a while now that I have replacements on hand. lol.I
I got an old apple juice jug with a fairly wide mouth and it works great for those cold nights. lol. I have spent almost 2 months working on this this boat and about 80% f it was from neglect. I found 3 out of 4 of my cockpit drains had bad hoses.  that could have been bad. I found them the day before I was going to be put in the water.
well, other then the minor stuff I'm really enjoying  living aboard. I should have my hatch on Friday and re beded my traveler, and maybe sunday or Monday head south. got some nasty weather being a pain in the but.

thanks...no luck with the Ass-4. I don't care if it runs perfact for the next 40 years I won't leave port again with out a back up. lol.
I'm held up in Hampton VA so if anyone is around and want to drop by call me at 919 396 8448.

AllAboutMe

I don't know if there is another thread about this or not, but saw an ad in Craigslist, Bill has the boat for sale in Hampton. He must have given up on the Atomic 4. Anyone else heard anything from him?

CapnK

I looked thru the last few days worth of listings, and didn't see it. Have a link?

I hope he's not quitting - maybe he just found a better boat or something. :)

nope not giving up..a few friends got together and we went throught the whole fuel system and rebuilt the carb. we ended up building a whole fuel system, from the tank to the carb. it runs great but I don't trust it beings it seems to run great till I need it then it takes a day off. lol. I have a good deal lined up till Jan 1 but if I don't sell lucky, I'll just keep going on her. the rig is not single hander friendly, and the other boat is a little bigger and realy set up for single handed sailing. lucky was set up for racing and I don't know what are how to use a bunch of the stuff on her. lol.
anyway if I sell Lucky I'll get a 35'er, if not I'll keep going on lucky.

CapnK

Great to hear that, Bill! Keep yer chin up, and keep Lucky's bow pointed towards adventure. :) Merry Christmas!

Good job, I have found most often overlooked problem is the stuff in the fuel tanks that has been there for years. I think that your boat can be more single handed ready. email or call and let us talk.

Thanks Yall, I'm not sure I can take too  much more adventure..lol. my first night at sea I ended up riding that Nor'Easter out and learned how to get that 35lb CQR to hold..lol. man I love that anchor!
Hey James I'll drop ya line as soon  as I get a break here.
     thanks.

Life underway revolves around the weather.

Hea, I just went through my first waterspout at anchor at 3am !!!!!

I hope to never do that again.

Exciting, isn't it  Yeah, we've done that twice.  The first was on the mooring---not too bad.  It picked us up and turned us 180 degrees, and ripped the forehatch off.  I found it on the beach.  The second time, it missed us, but took the roof off all the covered slips.  One boat had a hard bimini, which went flying across the marina like a frisbee, hit the mizzen of a ketch and cut it off about 10 feet above the gooseneck.  One of the posts holding up the roof of the covered slips went through the deck, cabin sole, and hull bottom, sinking the boat in the slip.
The only thing better than sailing is breathing, but neither is of much worth without the other.
There is no life without water.

No strain, Bill. Just remember the simple rules: 1. Keep the boat in the water, 2. Keep the water out of the boat, 3. Stay in the boat, 4. Don't run into the boat.

Everything else is just details.

Now go sailing. Next year you can come outside with me. 5-1/2 days from Norfolk to Abacos.
