Captain Smollett

Got a call today from a friend of mine who makes cakes.  She has been hired by a lady to make a sailboat cake for a boy's birthday.  He has been to summer camps and really loves the boats.

We have some technical issues to solve in the rig, but beyond that, it should be interesting.  I'll see if I can post some pictures when she is done.

Her conversation started with:  "Well, I bet you never thought I'd be asking you for help with a cake."  Yep....cake making.decorating is about as far outside my personal skill set as you can imagine.

Yeah, I got a photo of the finished cake, but waiting for her to post 'em on her web site.  When she does, I'll link.

Here are the photos of the finished cake.  "Don Lee" is the name of the camp the boy attended and I guess where he learned to sail.

Nicely done!
And compared to some of the things I've seen on "cakewrecks" that's a gem!

It may be the boat I stay with for the rest of my days, unless I retire to a cruising/liveaboard life.
1979 Southcoast Seacraft 26A
Kinda up for sale.

I know it's an older post and not intending to hijack it, but I thought it was a cool cake indeed.  I've had some sailboat cake experience in my past.

A friend made my groom's cake when my wife and I married a decade ago.  Not a picture specifically of the cake, but you get the idea.

Also, my wife made me a sailboat cake on my last birthday.
