Old Shoe

I posted a little about me in the Intro thread. I'd like to discuss my boat and my plans a little.

The boat is a '69 Coronado 25, #1137. The history is that the boat was owned by a German man for 37 years, mostly single-handing it. He moved to Florida where he had another boat waiting. He appeared to keep the boat up fairly well.  The next man owned it for about 3 years, where it languished on a mooring ball. He then sold it to me.

I have spent the winter correcting owner #2's neglect. Items fixed include:
Revamped electrical system
Bilge pump upgrade from 500 gph to 1500 gph
Rigging inspection, new running rigging
New main sail (had the original 40 year old sail!)
Much cleaning and scrubbing
Repaired the Autohelm 800
Continually adding safety gear
VHF and antenna.

Issues remaining are cosmetic and to replace the thru-hulls and the original gate valves with silicone bronze seacocks. A bottom job wouldn't hurt either.

The boat is very basic. Once the Chesapeake was declared a "no raw sewage" zone, the original toilet was removed, the seacocks capped off, glassed over and an RV type cassette toilet was installed. The head sails are still hank-on. It does have "shore power", with three 110v outlets at various places in the cabin.

The deck and hull are rock solid with no soft spots or delamination and few cracks in the gelcoat. The engine is an '06 Honda 4-stroke that runs perfectly.

The head sails are a 110 working jib and a 130 genoa and they are in pretty decent shape. There's no rush to replace them.

I plan on sailing this boat as often as possible in the Chesapeake, and then in two years' time, I'd like to circumnavigate the Delmarva peninsula. My neighbor taught offshore sailing at the USNA, and he made the journey in his own boat with a Co25 accompanying him so I know that it has been done.

I realize that there are tougher, more stable pocket cruisers out there but I'd like to hear a few opinions from people who've made the Delmarva trip and from others who one Co25's.

Thanks.

There is an author, George Benson, who wrote a cruising guide of the north pacific coast from the Golden Gate to Port Angeles. his boat is a Coronado 25. He made some modifications. Check out his web site.

Ah, excellent. Thanks!

Rats...the link doesn't work, even after I take out the extra H at the beginning. I googled George Benson and all I found was a musician.

And...nevermind. I searched differently and found him. This looks really good. Thanks again!
