B29 Progress

It's been awhile since I've posted so i thought I'd send an update for all those who tolerated my incessant boat waffling...

I've not been getting up to the boat as often as I wanted, but it hits the water in two weeks so I'm getting the bare essentials down. I've been posting over at PlasticClassicforum for some help from Tim so I apologize for the duplicate posts for anyone who's a forum ho like me :)

She splashes in less than two weeks and I've yet to power her up.

Got new bottom paint on yesterday

Interior after vacuuming and rigorous cleaning. I've emptied a lot of water out various parts of the boat with my wet/dry vac. All that water makes for some stink so she got some well-deserved fresh air yesterday.

Cockpit badly in need of a scrub and coamings in need of some work

I'm really enjoying working on her though. I wish I had more time to devote to her. Working on my boat is more satisfying than anything I do at work and much more satisfying than chores around the house. Besides the minor stuff like brightwork and general scrubbing, the chainplates/knees need attention and the electrical is a nightmare. Still planning to store heated indoors this winter when I really want to kick some butt on her.

Very nice looking boat.

Is it possible that those photos have been stretched? The boat looks very long.

Just so you know, the cleanup work is something you do every year.

Pretty sure they weren't stretched... the aspect looks right to me. This particular design is noted for a long boom and being a herreshoff boat she has the lines that elongate its appearance some.

Yeah I suppose she'll get dirty every year. This one is especially dirty IMO as the PO left it for 2 or 3 years mostly unattended.

June 3rd I set sail for Milwaukee. Depending on the route it will be about 100 miles I think. Looking forward to some quality time aboard.

She's a 1970 Bristol 29 - Herreshoff design

I'll be sailing her very soon ready or not. I gotta get her on her mooring about 100 miles south of where she's stored now. Can't wait to get out there! Gonna be a great trip.

Thanks! I'll have a lot more pics once I get her in the water and plenty from the delivery trip. Pablo and another local gentleman will be joining me for the trip so it's going to be a great time!

Pretty sure the B29 is a Halsey Herreshoff design, at least from what I've read.

In the water! She floats. Cleaned up nicely too!

Only a few days wait, and a bunch of last minute fixes to start her on her way home.

Thanks! I won't be crossing. I'll be coming down the western coast from Manitowoc to Miwaukee. Looking forward to the trip. vinegarj has been giving me tips on sheet-to-tiller so I want to give that a shot, wind direction permitting and also want to give my tilller pilot a try as well.

I'll have more pics next weekend when she's home!

Boat's on her mooring in Milwaukee. We made excellent time. We spanned over 90 miles in about 14 hours. There was very little wind so we motored with the main up to balance almost all the way. Great trip though. Fantastic overnight.

Here's a shot I took of what the majority of our trip looked like. The gentleman laying down is a good sailing friend of mine.

I wish I could've gotten a more stable pic of this because it was just awesome. This (junk-rigged?) old sailing vessel was heading out just before a front was set to come in at dawn. He sat on the horizon just below the cloudline. It was really a cool scene.

Congratulations! Great pix.

BTW, I think that's a gaffer on the horizon, not a Junk. He's just got the foresail furled, or more likely, not hanked on.
