Captain Smollett

Woke up this morning to a thin layer of ice on the river in the marina - in the fairways and in the slips.  One power boater down the way was on the dock announcing to anyone passing by, "I'm not an ice breaker."

I replied, "Maybe you can rig a bow grace."

This is our third winter here, and the first time we've seen ice on the open water in the river.  We've seen ice along the shoreline, but never 'in the open.'  I had heard that once in the last ten years or so, the Trent has frozen all the way across; not sure I want to see THAT, but it was pretty cool to see the ice this morning.

The ducks did not seem too perturbed.  :)

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

the Trent was ice in the middle???? man you got cold over there! I was in Newbern back in the 80's and had to go diving near Fairfeild harbor, in that swampy mess in mid Jan., and it was very cold, but there was not a lick of ice around. I was hired to look for a strong box and civil war relics that a few locals claimed was thrown in the creek. all I found was a old wagon wheel steel ring and some of the wood spokes, and some rough cut 14" wide planks. prob.  some old farmers stuff thrown in there in the 50's or 60's and someone thought it was older.
I jumped in the water and was ready to get out before the gear was damp!..that mess was COOOOOLLLLDDD! I can't imagine jumping in when there is ice on the water.
