Something I intended to share oh.... about 4 (maybe 5?) years ago.

 It is really nice to have red interior lighting.  On a small boat, it does not take much... maybe one for the head, and one in the galley.

 Of course you can spend $189 on a dual color light fixture with LED's from a marine supplier...

OR

 Get yourself down to your local walmart, truck stop, or flea-bay and go to the trailer section...

I have been using a couple of the red LED clearance lights that I bought for $5 and they are great.

 Make sure you don't mount them at eye level, but with proper mounting and a switch you have some
great, long lasting, low draw lighting.

 We have one over the galley, and another over the head... they are great.

Here is one example.

Here is another;

Laura saw those some time ago and thought-"what a great idea"

Since we already have white/red LED fixtures inside we didn't need them. Sure wouldn't mind finding some white LED fixtures like that though.

Nifty low cost solution. I may go with that for the head.

But where are you shopping that the manufactured ones cost nearly $200?

Here's the one we bought for over the galley.  The white is quite bright, too.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

walmart also has those white led lights in the boating section for around $10 +/-.  I bought a red mini running light from the auto section and used that over my pilot birth. I removed the red lens and made a lamp shade out of a scrap peice of stainless. I loaned it to friend a few months ago for his non-powered boat and have not heard from him since. geuss that means I'll never get it back. lol.
