Captain Smollett

Real conversation today as my children and I walked down the dock toward our boat:

Son: Why do elephants have trunks?

Me: It's part of what makes them elephants. {metaphysical, no?}

Son: So, there's two types of trunks - car trunks and elephant trunks.

Me: And, your boat {the optimist} has a centerboard trunk.

Son, as we climb aboard the Alberg 30: Where's the centerboard trunk on THIS boat?

Me: This boat does not have a centerboard; it has a full keel.

Son:  What's a keel?

Daughter: You know, the part we run aground on!

Alberg 30

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  -Mark Twain

Thanks for bringing a smile to my day!
1977 Nordica 20 Sloop
It may be the boat I stay with for the rest of my days, unless I retire to a cruising/liveaboard life.
1979 Southcoast Seacraft 26A
