A friend just e-mailed me about this tragic fire.

There were a number of wooden beauties, including C. Raymond Hunt's unusual racer/cruiser Huntress and a number of Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 25s stored in that building. The little yard also maintained the moorings and guest moorings for this almost perfect little harbor.

I hope not all the boats were lost.

Quissett Harbor Boatyard Fire Update

A fire on Wednesday afternoon tore through a Falmouth, Massachusetts, boatyard warehouse that has stood since the 1930s.

At about 2:00 p.m. firefighters from 5 departments responded to the 2-alarm fire at the Quissett Harbor Boatyard on Quissett Harbor Road. Flames reached well above the building?s roof and were visible from miles away.

No one was in the building, which served as a workshop and provides storage for boats and equipment, when the fire started, said Weatherly Dorris, who owns the boatyard.
