Delivery trip

Howdy folks. Posting from a little bar about 15 miles east of New Orleans.

Delivering an Ohlsen 38 from Tex to Pensacola, Fl and got caught in some NASTY weather so we found a hideyhole on a place called Chef Mentor R in Louisiana. Left Orange Texas on Tues and crossed the Mississippi River today. Then the tornado warnings started, so we hid!!

Only two aboard. Hope to make Pensacola by Weds but might be Thurs.

Lost shifting twice, both times in locks. Both times fixed by the time the other gates opened, but a tad hairy ;D

Thanks. Right now stuck in Chef Mentuer pass about 15 miles east of Mississippi R. Made it in yesterday JUST before the storms hit. But we are between two swing bridges that won't open for us until the wind quits gusting over 25. So here we sit. Average winds are down into the teens now-earlier were 22-24 gusting close to 30.

So we sit.

MAYBE we'll get out and make Gulfport, Miss this evening. Or not. If not, thentomorrow we'll sail for Biloxi instead. Still hope to make Pensacola by Weds evening.

They made it to Gulfport around 2030 tied up to the dock. No sailing wind on their nose all day.

Left Gulfport yesterday AM and powered down a very rough Miss Sound, dead into 15 kts and 3-5 footers. Cold water, cold air, cold wet crew. But at least the sun was shining

As the day progress the wind abated, as did the seas. The cabin top dried out, as did the decks (and crew)

Wound up motoring in 1 footers until about 5 miles from Pax Aux Heron channel, and then the engine quit. Hoisted sail and sailed into and down the channel, being passed by towboats, until we made it to a spot we could pull out and anchor.

Put 5 gallons diesel in, bled the lines and we are good to go again.. Seems the tank is 20 gallons, rather than 25.

Ah the joys of delivering other peoples boats. With any luck we'll reach destination today.

So with any luck, you should be tieing-up to a pier about now!
